Ahmet Polat (Artist Snapshot)

Turkish-born, Dutch photographer Ahmet Polat’s documentary photography strikes a revealing juxtaposition between harmony and discord. Working actively in Instanbul and in wider Turkish communities, Polat explores the lives of young men and disenfranchised citizens, asking questions of society’s role for man and vice versa.

Polat depicts his subjects through subtle everyday observation, using striking monochrome to reveal their collective humanity and grace in spite of poverty and disillusionment. Exhibited by the X-ist gallery, Istanbul, Polat’s work lights up the ‘Discovery’ section of Photo London and reiterates the enormous potential of photography as a reflective, journalistic medium.
