What: Hungary’s sprawling united capital, made up of historic Buda and lively Pest.
Where: Central Hungary.
Top Notch: National Museum, St. Stephen’s Basilica, Hungarian Parliament, Buda Castle, Margrit Island, ruin bars, diversity, river cruises, Jewish Quarter.
Currency: Hungarian Forint.
Snapshot: Much raved about, Budapest’s sensations are immediately felt. No let down. Stunning architecture has been well protected and is best at Buda Castle and the Hungarian Parliament, with both spectacularly lit up at night. Museums, cafes and vintage shops are numerous, whilst the thriving Jewish quarter hosts Pest’s (yes, the city was formerly split) famous ruin bars, where derelict buildings and upcycled furnishings become central to having a good time.
